Spread across the stage is a summer’s evening; the front porch air thick with lazy guitar, the bass sticking you to the swing like honey, the drums like ice cubes chilling your glass, voices, tight in a unique beauty all their own capture the mind like the moon fills the sky. The name, evocative of the south and its sleepy, resilient nature inspires a soulful persistence in the band’s original songs that blend all American musics. What started as a duo on an errant path to a dream, these Georgia based, genre defying darlings aren’t afraid to carve out a space all their own.
Dave Kirslis’ tone rich guitar picking and grounded, upbeat songwriting deftly contrasts Andrea DeMarcus’ moody bowed upright bass swells and insightful lyrics. Dave’s voice, warm and youthful, Andrea’s bright and sweet, combine effortlessly in intimate harmonies that make you feel as if you’re sharing a tender stolen moment. Adding Colin Agnew’s percussion inspired drumming and third part harmony digs a deeper foothold making the band sound bigger than the trio you see. Two records and a decade on the road has given them the wisdom and patience to know there’s a power and a presence in taking it slow, and an eagerness and respect for every day the dream lives on.
