  • Paul Thorn Unveils Upcoming Album and Lead Single, "Tough Times Don't Last"

This Friday has brought exciting news from Paul Thorn , announcing his new album Life Is Just A Vapor . Set to release on February 21st via Thirty Tigers, this album is the first to follow his 2021 album Never Too Late to Call . Eleven new songs are on the way, each sharing some of the wisdom Thorn has gathered over his life and career, told through his witty and powerful songwriting. Thorn says “I like for people to be touched by music and get something from it, something that they can take with them throughout the day. Every song on this album, there's a message in it of some sort about how to live life.” With this announcement comes the first single, "Tough Times Don't Last," accompanied by its official lyric video. This track kicks off the album with an encouraging message on overcoming challenges as "tough people do." As Thorn explains, "’Tough Times Don’t Last’ is a song that everyone can relate to as we’re all looking at something that’s hard to face at one time or another. There are two kinds of people in the world. There are people that lay down and cry when faced with adversity and there are those that understand that you have to sometimes fight your way back up. Things can get better but you have to stay tough to endure and this song is about that." Between the release of Life Is Just A Vapor and shows continuing into 2025, Thorn leaves us with much to look forward to as we approach the new year. • ‘Swept Away’ on Broadway Gets Critic’s Pick from New York Times

“Swept Away,” a beloved song from The Avett Brothers ’ 2004 album Mignonette has been incorporated into the music of the new Broadway play of the same name, along with other songs from the canon of The Avett Brothers. It opened on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at the Longacre Theatre with great fanfare, and a host of celebrities, including Brooke Shields and Clive Davis, as well as Scott Avett, Seth Avett, and Bob Crawford, were in attendance. Not your typical Broadway fare, and described as dark and harrowing at times, the theme embraced issues of humanity and morality. It brought many a sniffle and tear to the Opening Night audience, and ultimately an enthusiastic standing ovation.   Writing for  Deadline Hollywood , Greg Evans said: "As enthralling as it is disquieting,  Swept Away ... is a taut and captivating new folk musical featuring the gorgeous songs of the roots-rock group The Avett Brothers and an impeccable cast." I n a surprise “encore” that followed introductions and thanks to the cast, crew and creators, Scott, Seth and Bob rose from beneath the stage in a wooden lifeboat, and accompanied by the fantastic pit band, performed their version of the song “Swept Away.” For a full review by the New York Times, click here: 'Swept Away' Review
