In one of this year's most unexpected musical pairings, The Avett Brothers have joined forces with Mike Patton, legendary frontman of Faith No More/Mr. Bungle for a collaborative album under the name AVTT/PTTN - the same name adopted by their new project.
The unlikely pairing began organically via mutual admiration. Before long, the Avetts and Patton were trading songs and ideas across coasts, which ultimately blossomed into the nine-song album. Produced by Patton, Scott Avett and Grammy-winning engineer and longtime Avett collaborator Dana Nielsen, AVTT/PTTN is set to release on November 14th via Thirty Tigers in association with Ramseur Records and Ipecac Recordings.
"[AVTT/PTTN] runs the gamut from the Avett Brothers’ stripped-down folk/roots sound to something more propulsive and unusual."

“Mike’s part of our DNA, like the fabric of our youth,” says Scott Avett. “Literally, we studied him. He’s a dear friend now, but when we were younger, I was imitating him.”
Patton speaks of the unlikely pairing - “My peculiar challenge in this was to become a long distant cousin, a brother that was orphaned. Maybe they kept him in the chicken coop or some shit. They brought him out years and years later.”
"Surely one of the most unexpected collaborations of this (or any) year."
