Rodney Crowell has announced a new album on the way and is kicking it off with the first single, "Taking Flight," out today. Airline Highway is set to release August 29th this year via New West Records, bringing us 10 songs and exciting collaborations.

Featuring a variety of country and blues artists including Ashley McBryde, Lukas Nelson, Larkin Poe, Tyler Bryant, and Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke, this album is packed with incredible musicians who recognize Crowell as a foundational influence. “This record is a document of me falling in love with these musicians," Crowell comments. "That’s one of the great perks of this job—falling in love with the people you’re playing with. And we caught that on tape.”

Airline Highway is about finding new perspectives on your past while living contentedly in the present moment. Crowell says, “At a basic level there are a lot more years behind me than there are ahead of me. I’m up in my seventieth decade of my life,” he says with a laugh, “and I’m glad that I’m still looking forward to certain things I want to do. My ambition isn’t to be a household name anymore. My ambition is to be satisfied with the work that I do. I’m at a place where it really is about having fun.”

The first single "Taking Flight" starts us off with a powerful duet between Crowell and McBryde, who co-wrote this song and are both featured in the new music video. Together, they tell a story of lovers who drift apart. As described by Crowell, "‘Flight’ is a fictional account of a discussion we had about stardom and driving at night in the south."

As we count down the days until the Airline Highway release, you can pre-order your copy now and catch Rodney Crowell on tour. Check out his upcoming tour dates to find a show near you!
