The album was co-produced by frontman Hunter Pinkston and Henry Barbe, and features guest appearances from Nikki Lane, Teddy and the Rough Riders, John James Tourville of The Deslondes, and Annie Leeth. “This record was me trying to take everything I love as a listener and a player and shove it all into one thing without it sounding random," says Pinkston. We're premiering "Baby, I’m Still Right Here (With You)," which is a duet with Nikki Lane in the tradition of George & Tammy, Porter Wagoner & Dolly Parton, and Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn. “‘Baby, I’m Still Right Here (With You)’ was me trying to show the influence George and Tammy have had on me," says Pinkston. "I figured my friend Nikki would be the perfect Honky Tonk Queen to sing it with me. John Neff plays an excellent Dobro vs. Pedal Steel solo and the phasers are full blast. Rodney Crowell’s latest album, Chicago Sessions, is once again holding down the #1 spot on the Americana Charts this week. Band of Heathens, after 6 weeks at number one and two weeks at number two are in the number 3 position, a solid testament to the popularity of their latest offering as well!

[Michael J. Media Group] DALLAS, TEXAS (June 12, 2023) – Even the hardest working road warriors, the relentless fiddles-to-the-grindstone performers need a break. That includes neo-traditionalist western swing trio The Quebe Sisters – siblings Grace, Sophia, and Hulda. After 23 years of touring North America, Europe, and Russia, these modern-day beacons of country and western swing are taking a hiatus. The trio’s current tour, dubbed “Bye, For Now,” wraps up at the end of 2023. After that? Well, as Sophia says, it is, “much-needed R&R and time off the road. For now, we are taking an undetermined hiatus. This isn’t retirement for us, just a nice break.” It is certainly a well-earned respite. The Dallas-based Quebe Sisters have steadfastly, completely free of frivolous fanfare, elevated the country and western swing genres for more than two decades. The talented sisters merge three-part harmony and triple fiddles to put a youthful, jubilant spin on Bob Wills’ classic sound. In their own unassuming yet musically turbo-powered way, The Quebe Sisters stretched the boundaries of an old-timey style and made it newly relevant for fans of all generations. Along the way, The Quebe Sisters recorded four acclaimed studio albums – 2003’s Texas Fiddlers, 2007’s Timeless, 2014’s Every Which-A-Way, and 2019’s The Quebe Sisters – that serve as sonic proof that these ladies are fearless interpreters and innovators. “Bob Wills was all about experimentation – melding just about every style he heard,” says Grace. “He hired the best musicians playing regionally traditional instruments, as well as players interested in experimenting on what were the cutting-edge instruments of the day. This spirit formed what we today call western swing, and it needs to be an ingredient in current iterations of western swing to keep the style fresh and vibrant for the present and future. So, for us it’s authentic to the style to introduce our own originals.” There is still plenty of time to bask in those Quebe originals onstage. Do these ladies wish fans would come out in droves to catch them onstage before they take a little downtime? Hulda doesn’t hesitate to answer: “Yes! We hope our fans will have a chance to come out and see us as we wrap up our touring through the end of 2023.” The “Bye, For Now” tour already includes a handful of Texas dates, which is no surprise since the Quebe siblings grew up in Texas surrounded by fiddles, bows, microphones, stages, and western swing tunes. Texas is the very reason Grace, Sophia, and Hulda ended up playing triple fiddle, Grace says. But in true trailblazing fashion, Texas couldn’t contain such immense talent and dedication. The Quebe Sisters took their sound beyond the boundaries of the Lone Star state and into the rest of this country and other countries as well. That makes their farewell (for now) message more resonant. Collectively, The Quebe Sisters express their sincere gratitude: “We want to thank our family, friends, and our behind-the-scenes team that have supported us for so many years. [IVPR] June 6, 2023 - Asheville, NC - “Apparently, my neighborhood is cursed,” says Graham Sharp, Steep Canyon Rangers’ banjoist and co-writer of their brand new single, “Hominy Valley.” A pulsating romp through the hills and valleys of which the Rangers sing, “Hominy Valley” dives into the backstory of Sharp’s cursed neighborhood: the story of General Rutherford’s campaign against the Cherokee during the Revolutionary war. “The story is that the army got wind they were being followed by two Cherokee scouts and poisoned a creek that one of them drank from,” recalls Sharp. “His friend buried him sitting upright on the hill, under what is now a huge old oak tree, looking over the valley to keep watch.” Sharp had been trying to write “Hominy Valley” for years and never got it across the finish line until one random night, sitting with his song idea after dinner. “I sat down and the whole thing was there,” he remembers. “The story never felt right until it connected with the current construction of apartments going on at the very spot right now.” Along with his co-writers and bandmates, Aaron Burdett and Barrett Smith, Sharp tied together the centuries-spanning effect of outside influencers taking North Carolina’s land for their own and the band shaped the song in only the way the Steep Canyon Rangers could; a moving story about the layers of human history in Sharp’s West Asheville neighborhood. “It’s not just a shared history, but a living history. Nothing is stamped and finished,” he says. “Hominy Valley” is the opening track and first single from Steep Canyon Rangers’ upcoming album, Morning Shift—due out September 8th. Produced by the distinguished Darrell Scott and engineered by the legendary Dave Sinko, Morning Shift found the Rangers recording their 14th studio album in Bat Cave, North Carolina, at the Inn Bat Cave, a historical refuge settled near a long-forgotten crossroads of Southern Appalachia. This was the perfect space to feel confident in expanding upon that Carolina sound, the perfect runway to let their well-oiled machine do what it does best- craft stories from the ground up, as a unit. “It was like going to recording camp,” said Scott, “We ate together, we stayed at the Inn together the whole time, and we recorded. Going about it that way made for a very organic record. We had a great engineer with Dave Sinko, who could in essence create a studio space in a rustic, historic home.” Morning Shift also marks the band’s first album with new band member Burdett on guitar and vocals, bringing a soul-stirring element to the Rangers’ mastery of mountain music. Burdett is an award-winning singer-songwriter and a student of folk tradition providing a fresh, emotional context to the Rangers’ songbook. Today, Folk Alley premiered the track writing, "'Hominy Valley' perfectly kicks off the anticipation of another excellent new album from the Steep Canyon Rangers." In addition to the previously announced Avett Brothers performing on “Long Story Short Willie Nelson 90,” the legendary performer-songwriter Rodney Crowell will also take the Hollywood Bowl stage, along with a star-studded cast of others, to honor the Red Headed Stranger for his 90th birthday celebration. Known for writing 15 #1 songs on the country music charts and receiving two Grammys, Crowell has also won 6 Americana Music Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting. He is also a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, so stay tuned, and in tune, to find out what songs he will perform to surprise Willie!

Today, The Pink Stones released the video for the first single, “Who’s Laughing Now?” which features the actor, writer, and comedian Chris Crofton. Hunter Pinkston of The Pink Stones says “I wrote this song right after the first album came out. We were playing live a lot and I was wanting more and more loud, rockin’, funky songs to play. It’s sort of a spiteful breakup song. Whether it be a friend, partner, boss, whatever… sometimes you gotta just walk right out the door and laugh on your way out.” The band's sophomore album, You Know Who, is set to release on June 30th via New West Records.

The 10-song set was produced by Jeff Tweedy and recorded by Tom Schick at Wilco’s Loft in Chicago. The masterful, cross-generational collaboration follows Crowell’s acclaimed 2021 album Triage. Hailed by Rolling Stone as a “country music trailblazer” and by The New York Times as an artist whose songwriting “gets better and sharper with age,” Crowell delivers an incisive, engaging collection that balances careful craftsmanship with joyful liberation at every turn. Sounding both fresh and familiar, it’s among Crowell’s very best work. As Jeff Tweedy puts it, “The way that Rodney writes is deeply connected to a classic era of country songwriters that I’ve always loved. In my estimation, it’s as close as I can get to working with Townes Van Zandt or Felice and Boudleaux Bryant — people who crafted songs with a very specific sensibility. And I like being near that.” Today, Crowell released the video for the album highlight “Loving You Is the Only Way to Fly.” Of the song, Crowell says, “‘Loving You Is the Only Way to Fly’ is something I wrote a while back with Sarah Buxton and Jedd Hughes, both of whom appear on the record. Jedd and I were sitting around with guitars in our hands when he started playing the basic chord pattern. I’m pretty sure the title sprang from something Ben Vaughn said to me back when we were writing ‘When Losers Rule The World,’ but I haven’t had the nerve to ask. Ben, if you read this, I wish you could’ve been there. If you feel left out, you can have my portion of the proceeds and I’ll take credit for putting Jeff Tweedy in charge of overseeing a pretty dang decent recording of the song. A co-write with Tweedy, the song walks a tightrope between hope and despair as it playfully wrestles with overstimulation in an overcrowded world. Perhaps no track better encapsulates the spirit of the record. Crowell explains, “It occurred to me that Jeff and I are both songwriters, and we ought to write something together for this album. We could have harmonized on it and gone down an Everly Brothers route, but ultimately we decided to just sing in unison and throw it out there like an all-skate. While looking at the cover of The Chicago Sessions, listeners might recognize a familiar callback to Crowell’s 1978 debut, Ain’t Living Long Like This. “In a lot of ways, this album feels like that very first record to me,” Crowell reflects. “When my daughter suggested we lay the artwork out similarly, the connection made perfect sense. There’s something very simple, very innocent about it. It’s just me and the band in a room together, loose and live and having fun.” The Chicago Sessions is indeed a throwback to the legendary Crowell’s early days of making records, but it’s no nostalgia trip. The songs are vital and timely, touching on everything from love and mortality to race and religion, and the performances are nothing short of intoxicating, fueled by raw guitars, honky-tonk piano, and tight, punchy drums. Tweedy wields a light touch as a producer, his influence subtle yet unmistakable. Engineer Tom Schick’s mixes are dynamic and lively, alternately lush and spacious in all the right places, with a spotlight fixed firmly on Crowell’s warm, weathered vocals throughout. While most of The Chicago Sessions consists of newly written material, Crowell revisits two tracks from the 1970s. The first, the aching “You’re Supposed to Be Feeling Good,” is a Crowell original first recorded by Emmylou Harris on her 1977 Luxury Liner record. While he had long intended to record it himself, the stars didn’t align until a new arrangement fell into place with Tweedy on guitar. The second, Townes Van Zandt’s “No Place to Fall,” had always held a special place in Crowell’s heart. “The first time I heard that song, Townes was sitting across the table from me at Guy and Susanna Clark’s house,” Crowell recalls. “He said, ‘Hey, I’ve got a new song for you,’ and it’s been imprinted on my psyche ever since. I wanted to record it as an homage to somebody that I learned a lot about songwriting from.” Crowell brought three players with him to The Loft — guitarist Jedd Hughes, pianist Catherine Marx, and bassist Zachariah Hickman — while enlisting Windy City natives John Perrine and Spencer Tweedy (Jeff’s son) to split drumming duties. Jeff Tweedy appears on vocals, guitars, and banjo throughout. Crowell has also announced his initial tour dates in support of The Chicago Sessions. Launching May 2 in New York City at Sony Hall, the initial run of dates feature stops at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago and the legendary Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, TX. Crowell has also announced the dates for his annual songwriting camp “It Starts With A Song 2023” August 21-24 in Nashville as well as being a part of the Cayamo Cruise lineup of artists next March 1-8, 2024. Born and raised in Houston, he moved to Nashville in the early 1970s, coming to prominence first as a writer before establishing himself as a critically acclaimed solo artist in his own right. With 15 #1 songs on the country music charts throughout his career, along with two GRAMMY Awards, he has written hits for such country legends as Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and George Strait, as well as for current chart toppers like Tim McGraw and Keith Urban. He’s been covered by r&b icons (Etta James) and rock legends (Van Morrison, Bob Seger). Throughout the last 20 years, he has been celebrated by the music industry. In 2003, he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and in 2006 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Songwriting from the Americana Music Association. In 2017 he was honored with ASCAP’s prestigious Founder’s Award, and in 2019 he was presented with the Poet’s Award by the Academy of Country Music. In addition to his prolific output as a singer, songwriter, and producer, he also found time to become a celebrated author, publishing his memoir, Chinaberry Sidewalks, and a lyrical retrospective, Word for Word, both to widespread praise. It would be difficult to overstate Crowell’s impact on country and roots music over the past 50 years. He may be a seasoned veteran, but the transcendent The Chicago Sessions feels like the first time all over again. An extremely limited pressing of 100 copies on Royal Blue vinyl will be available only in Chicago record stores, while 1,000 copies will be pressed on Denim Blue vinyl and sold at independent retailers worldwide.
